Life
I was born on August 23th, 1983, in the Silesian city Ostrava. Shortly after my birth, our family moved to Opava. In 1994, my parents bought a countryside house in nearby village of Sluzovice, which saved me from being a purely "urban child".
After finishing my basic education in 1997, I studied high school in Bílovec. Being accomodated at the local student dormitory, I spent most of my time away from my parents' home ever since. After passing the final (maturity) exams in 2002, I moved to Prague for university studies.
In October of the same year, I fell in love with my wife, Markéta. We married on September 9th, 2006, after four years of living together.
In September 2005, I started to work at VZLU Prague.
Education
I started my basic education in 1989 in Opava at ZS Sramkova. After four years, showing noticeable talent for mathematics, I moved to ZS Oticka, a school with extended mathematics education. In 1997, I was accepted at Gymnazium Mikulase Kopernika (GMK) in Bílovec for 4-years-long high school studies, terminated by a final exam (maturita) in 2002.
During my basic school and high school attendance, I became quite a successful mathematics competitor, particularly in the Mathematics Olympiad (MO). The final year 2002 was also the most successful in this regard - I won the first place in national MO round in Litomysl and subsequently a silver medal at 43rd IMO in Glasgow, UK.
Given these successes, I was accepted without entrance exams at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics (MFF) of Charles University (UK). I studied Computational Mathematics and graduated in September 2006, one year earlier than scheduled. (I might be the last MFF student to manage this for a very long time, because the system of studies changed to 3-degree since 2003, and finishing a year earlier thus became much more difficult.)
Currently, I'm enrolled at PhD studies at MFF. I have not taken advantage of any of the plethora of opportunities UK offers to study abroad, mainly because I didn't want to be separated from my wife for a long time.
Interests
My principal interests are mathematics, computer science and physics. Despite not being a very sport-based person, I quite like hiking and bicycling. I've also trainedd Aikido and Judo for a while. My favourite author is Terry Pratchett.
